Crockett HS Tex-Ann Handbook

Of Rules and Regulations

            The purpose of this handbook is to cover any rules and regulations specific to Crockett HS and the Tex-Ann organization.  Membership as a Tex-Ann is a privilege.  Students who fail to comply with the rules set forth in the district constitution and the Tex-Ann handbook will be dismissed.

APPEARANCE

All members are expected to maintain a neat, clean appearance and fit body. Tattoos and/or body piercing must be concealed at all times while in costume or uniform. Unnatural hair color is not appropriate and will not be allowed. Members must appear lady-like or gentlemanly in and out of uniform. Members must comply with Crockett HS dress code at school at all times.

BANQUETS/PARTIES

Tex-Anns may have a Winter Holiday party hosted by the senior parents. The junior parents will host the end of the year banquet. Cost of the banquet for members will be determined by the amount left in the Booster account at the end of the year.

AWARDS

The following awards will be given to Tex-Anns at the end of the year banquet. Awards may only be received if the student is in good standing with the team (all debts paid and still an active member of the team) and lettering requirements are met.

Lettering requirements:

  • Must participate / perform in at least half of the football games- if injured or ineligible, must fulfill duties as assigned by director

  • Must dance in at least one contest piece- if injured or ineligible, must fulfill duties as assigned by director

  • Must dance in spring show- if injured or ineligible, must fulfill duties as assigned by director

  • Must earn required number of merit points

  • Awards as follows

1st year letter……… Boot Patch

2nd year letter……… Crockett “C”

3rd year letter……… gift

4th year letter…… gift

Scholarship Award………. $100.00 - $200.00- awarded to senior with the highest GPA

Most improved Sophomore, Junior and Senior Scholarships

  • Fine Arts Cords- In order to qualify for a pink fine arts cord, you must be in dance for four years and/or in Tex-Anns for three years, be in good standing with the team or class (passed all 4 years), have all debts paid and finished out your senior year in dance and/or Tex-Anns. Seniors must pay for their own cord.

MERIT POINT SYSTEM

 

A. Requirements-

            To remain a member in good standing, each girl must earn the required number of merit points per year.  1st year- 100; 2nd year- 125; 3rd -4th year –150.  Members who do not earn the required merit points will not receive their Award letter at the end of the year nor be allowed to perform in Spring Show and will not be allowed to remain on the team for the next year.  Throughout the year, Tex-Anns have many opportunities to earn merits.  Merits are designed to recognize good work, extra effort, and special service.  Tex-Anns may earn merits in a variety of ways including but not limited to the following:

5                       any 6 weeks grade that goes up the next 6 weeks in an academic course

5                       attend approved dance productions (provide ticket stub/program)

5                       cleaning, organizing, helping in the office or locker room- on own time- not assigned

5                       attending an extra technique practice/rehearsal

5                       attending a non-required school activity in Tex-Ann attire (ex. Baseball, basketball, soccer, in Friday outfit) **must get CHS                                       faculty signature for proof of attendance**

5                       Camp recognitions (stickers, ribbons, awards, etc.)

5                       Studio dance class outside of school (1 per class)

5                       Demonstrator pulled out in class

5                       EAK (extraordinary acts of kindness)

5                       Proof of community service outside of school time (1 per hour) (excluding hours used for other organizations: NHS, Student                                           Council, etc.

***Reporting of Merits:

Tex-Anns may receive credit for merits by completing a Merit Reporting Sheet and submitting it to the director within 2 weeks of the merit-earning event or by the first week of school for summer merits or the merits will not count.

***You must bring a ticket stub or have a signature for all outside performances attended

***You may NOT work off demerits with merits…Merits are used to remain a member in good standing only

DISCIPLINARY SYSTEM

In order to achieve the greatest amount of teamwork and responsible social behavior, the following regulations will be enforced.  Demerits help to reinforce the regulations set forth by the AISD Constitution, Tex-Ann handbook as well as the Crockett HS Code of Conduct. 

-You can receive demerits any time during your membership on Tex-Anns. This includes weekends, evenings and holidays.

-Only the directors can give demerits to members. Officers must report any infractions to directors.

-The directors will keep a record of demerits and have the recipients sign. It is the Tex-Ann’s responsibility to sign for the demerit after she has been notified of receiving it. 

-Demerits start the first day of summer camp and end the last day of school.

-Demerits will start over for each calculating period.

TARDIES:

  • You may receive without penalty two “car troubles” per year if you also provide a parent note to justify the car trouble.

  • 3 tardies = 1 demerit

​

ABSENCES:

  • Excused in advance by director = 0 demerits

  • Unexcused absence from performance = 5 demerits

  • WORK is not an excuse for an absence from a practice, performance or Tex-Ann event

​

ONE (1) Demerit for each of the following:

  • Failure to call the office (414-7832) prior to any rehearsal, work session, or meeting which you will be absent from- whether we are dancing that day or not!

  • Unprepared for rehearsal (hair not up and out of face, wrong clothes or shoes, wearing jewelry, etc.)

  • Failure to meet responsibilities (assigned duties, etc.)

  • Talking in rehearsal

  • Leaving rehearsal or performance without asking permission; “wandering off”

  • Being seen in an incomplete uniform BEFORE or AFTER a performance (ex. taking your hat or overlay off in the parking lot after the game without permission)

  • Failure to label ALL belongings

  • Chewing gum, eating food, etc. at inappropriate times in rehearsal or in any Tex-Ann uniform or costume

  • Hair falling down or losing part of a uniform or costume during a performance.

  • Out of compliance with school dress code while at school

TWO – FIVE (2-5)

  • 3 Demerits for taking items from the costume closet or office without permission from the director

  • 3 Demerits for eating or drinking (anything except bottled water) in uniform without permission from the director

  • 3 Demerits for not attending a function committed to

  • 3 Demerits for profanity/disrespect/unladylike conduct (behavior that is unbecoming to a Tex-Ann and will be decided on at the discretion of the director)

  • 3 Demerits per day for coming to school, practice or performance with unnatural hair color [WU1] [WU2] (Ex. pink, purple, blue, etc.)

  • 5 Demerits for missing a performance without prior approval

  • 2-5 Demerits for any act committed after a director’s warning

  • 3 Demerits for public displays of affection – hand holding and a kiss on the cheek is OK.

  • 3 Demerits for visible piercing at any time in costume/ uniform – including tongue, belly button, and all facial piercing (nose, eyebrow, lip, etc.).  Clear retainers are okay.  SMALL ear studs are acceptable for practice only.

  • 2 demerits for skipping a class- if you are out of class without a pass, it is skipping.

  • 5 Demerits for any visible tattoos (this includes practice & performance as well as inside of school for a Tex-Ann appearance)

  • 2-5 Demerits for actions of disrespect towards director/officers/teammates

  • 2-5 Demerits for failure to follow school rules (ex. Going off campus for lunch as an underclassman, actions of disrespect towards a teacher, school official, or other adult, etc.)

 

PROBATION:

Probation is defined as that period of time during which a member is denied participation in scheduled performances. 

A. Members on probation for any reason will be required to participate fully during class times.

B. Length of probation will be determined by the director.

C. If a member is on probationary status, that member will be informed of its duration, guidelines and conditions of maintaining their membership.

D. Each member’s probationary status will be handled individually while always considering what is best for the whole group.

E.  Members are subject to probation for the following violations:

1. A total of 5 demerits will “bench” a member for one week- no performance

2.  Any officer that receives 10 demerits and is put on probation will forfeit their officer position in Tex-Anns

3. Disrespect to director, officers, teachers, or team members

4. Excessive use of profanity

5. Cutting class

6. Lending part or all of uniform to a non-member

7. Unacceptable behaviors as determined by the director, including leaving campus without permission

8. Three unexcused absences constitute a probationary period as determined by the director

9. Grade sheets will be checked every week. If not turned in, you will not be able to perform in the next performance

10. 10 demerits = 3 weeks of probation with no performances

LOSS OF MEMBERSHIP

  • Home suspension from school

  • Fighting, gang activity, and/or any illegal activity

  • A total of 15 demerits (accumulated during one year)

  • Academic Ineligibility Removal- failure for 2 consecutive six weeks in a year

  • Violation of the Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Policy

  • Violation of the Internet/ Social media code of conduct

Should a member be suspended any time throughout the year, for any reason, they must re-tryout in order to reinstate their membership.

1. Suspended members are not to wear any Tex Ann clothing until they are reinstated.

2. A member who “fails off” the team may try-out for reinstatement to the team the following year on the condition that she is on grade level and meets all tryout qualifications.

3. A member who goes to another organization (Ex. Cheerleading) or leaves due to health concerns or pregnancy may try out the next year.  Applicants must meet all grade, attendance, discipline and citizenship requirements.

TEX-ANN CONDUCT CODE

            The Tex-Anns is a dance team composed of fine young people. Tex-Anns is an honorable and respected organization. We are proud to represent Crockett H.S. in all activities. Every individual should set a good example as a student in all classes by being responsive and respectful to teachers, administrators and other students. Good attendance and exemplary behavior are a must. Responsibility and dedication are very important to our team. Tex-Anns are responsible for their actions and their belongings. Tex-Anns are dedicated to making our team the best that it can be.

             The rules set forth in the district constitution and this handbook shall govern the conduct of each member of this organization. It must be understood that each member is responsible for upholding and seeing that others uphold the Conduct Code at all times. It is not the purpose to create ill feelings in the event of turning members into the Director, but to encourage the maintenance of the high standards and ideals set forth by the organization. Any offenses not covered by this constitution, but which are clearly and logically an offense, the Director shall declare offenses. Any disciplinary action needed will be in full accordance with school and district policies that are approved by the principal and administration of Crockett High School.
